KETURAH
beauty blog
Hi, I’m Amanda

I have been in Australia for 6 years now with my gorgeous FIANCÉE (recently engaged :). I’m a Beauty Therapist here @ Keturah Day Spa in Nedlands.

I love making people feel great, whether that be with a relaxing Hot Stone Massage, a beautiful Facial or having their Hair and Makeup done. It is the reason I became a Beauty Therapist.

The more I learn about the Industry the more I fall in love with it. I have recently attended Advanced Dermapen training and am so excited to bring it to Keturah.

The Dermapen is an Advanced Skin Micro-needling device that creates tiny injuries beneath the skins surface to stimulate the skins natural healing and regenerative response.  It is great for improving the appearance of Ageing, Acne, Rosacea, Pigmentation, Scar Tissue and Stretch marks. I have a couple of nasty scars on my face and the Dermapen is working a treat at breaking up the uneven scar tissue.

Medik8 C-Tetra Cream
This gorgeous silky light day cream is my new fave! As part of the Vitamin C antioxidant range it protects the skin from free radical damage while maintaining healthy collagen production. It helps minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, energising and brightening tired skin. Also it smells AMAZE!

That’s all from me, I hope to see you in the Spa soon.

Day Spa FAQs for Pregnant Women and New Mums

Can I get a massage while I am pregnant?

Providing it is after the first trimester of pregnancy (after 3 months) Pregnancy Massage is both safe and beneficial for expectant mums to receive massage up to the due date and beyond.
The frequency of massage throughout your pregnancy varies as each women and pregnancy is different. Usually massage is recommended once a month during the second trimester (3-6 months), and then more often during the third trimester (6-9months), but it’s very much up to what you feel you need.
At Keturah Day Spa we have a specifically designed 3-piece cushion which is securely attached to our treatment bed for your ultimate comfort during Pregnancy Massage.  This allows Mums-to-be to safely lay flat on their tummy for ultimate relaxation. As your baby grows we can increase the size of the hole depending on your needs.
Massage is a great way for expectant mums to alleviate discomfort and prepare their body for the experience of giving birth. If you have special circumstances however, you should contact your doctor before booking an appointment.

Can I get a spray tan while I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

This is a personal choice. The active ingredient in spray tan is known as Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is a sugar-based and non-toxic substance. It reacts with only the outermost skin cells to produce the desired brown pigment colour and so does not absorb into the bloodstream.
Whilst fake tan lotions and creams are considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, some mums-to-be can be concerned about the effects of inhaling spray tan. Therefore, it is recommended that you wear a mask and not have your face sprayed while pregnant to reduce the chance of inhalation. Similarly, during the stages of breastfeeding, the breast area should not be spray-tanned and can be protected by covering the area.
Like anything during your pregnancy, if you are unsure, please consult your specialist before considering a spray tan.

Is waxing safe while I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Waxing is perfectly safe as its all natural, containing no chemicals or ingredients that could potentially harm your baby. Many women will go about the normal waxing treatments but it’s not uncommon for some to stay away from waxing during their pregnancy due to the increased blood flow and hyper sensitivity. For this reason, it’s ideal to test on a small area beforehand and inform your beauty salon that you’re pregnant.
Hair removal creams however do contain chemicals so it’s strongly advised you stay away from them.
